PRISON MINISTRY – COOKIES NEEDED

Women from our parish are helping with the Kairos Prison Ministry retreat for incarcerated women at Central Virginia Correctional Unit 13 on Courthouse Road in October. We are asking for homemade cookies for the incarcerated women who are participating in the Kairos Weekend Retreat. Your homemade cookies will be a tangible expression of God’s love to these women who rarely, if ever, receive anything special at all. There are cookie regulations in place, and the following guidelines are to be followed in making the cookies. *Acceptable cookie types are oatmeal, peanut butter, molasses, chocolate chip, ginger, and sugar. *Cookies should be uniform in size between 2 inches and 2 1/2 inches in diameter and not more than 1/2 inch thick. You don’t have to measure them. Please note the following guidelines for cookies ingredients:

*No raisins or fruit

*No candies

*No icing, powdered sugar, or rolled in sugar even before baking

*No bar cookies

*No cut out or shaped cookies

*Nuts are permitted, but must be labeled

*All cookies must be bagged in quart-size, zip-lock bags with one dozen per bag and labeled.

Special Note: Cookies can be prepared ahead of time and frozen. Do NOT package HOT cookies.

Return the cookies by : OCTOBER 13-14

A labeled box for collecting your cookies will be on the parish life desk in the Commons. Thank you so much for helping with prison ministry! Please come visit our table on Community Weekend October 6/7 to sign up for the Prayer Vigil for the incarcerated women’s retreat AND to pick up your quart-size, zip-lock bags for your cookies. We’d love to meet you and answer any questions that you may have.
